Roadside Solution
The traditional role of the W Beam system is to protect motorists running off the roads and crashing into hazards. The semi-rigid nature of the barrier aims to slow the vehicle down safely whilst re-directing the vehicle back onto the roadway like a large elastic band. The correct end treatments and bridge approaches also fill important roles in the barrier system. There is no "one size fits all" solution in barrier works.
At ARMCO® we manufacture and install public domain systems typically known as Type B or G4 systems. More recently, a number of approved proprietary systems have entered the market and are being specified which consist of the traditional ARMCO® or W-Beam with different style post and post centres.
Our approach is to work with the client and develop the optimum solution for their project choosing from various systems and combining them with ARMCO® W-Beam Guardrail. In addition to the longitudinal rail system, there are a multitude of differing end treatments, bridge approaches, stiffening methods and bridgerail. ARMCO® will work with you on the requirements for the transitions between components.
Bridges and Culverts
Bridges and Culverts require specialised solutions. Requirements are governed by AS5100 and are generally broken into three test level requirements. Speak to our team regarding your requirements for a solution.
As the barrier over the bridge needs to be less forgiving than the roadside guardrail, there is a transition between the road side rails and the bridgerails.
These transitions are known as Bridge Approaches and represent a specific product in itself. Armco® manufactures and installs these transitions and can assist you should you have any queries.
Mid Length
Midlengths consist of the classic "W-Beam" profile combined with one of several proprietary post systems.
Public domain systems use the strong post systems, and these systems are deemed to comply with lower levels of crash testing.
In addition, there are a small number of proprietary post systems approved for use in Australia and crash tested to higher levels such as Level 3 or 4. The different mid length options suit different applications.
Armco® is a manufacturer and installer of the of the Public Domain systems. However, we also install all of the brands of crash barriers from other suppliers. Our years of experience can assist you greatly in determining the correct requirements for your project.
Terminals and Crash Cushions.
All crash cushions and end terminals are required to be Crash Tested to MASH Standards (an American based testing standard).
There are several proprietary products available and once again Armco® is well positioned to assist with Terminal and Cushion selection due to our years of experience working with them.
