Car Parks

General Impact Protection

In car parks where there is no requirement to protect from an errant vehicle running over the edge of a raised platform or deck, Armco® provides a cost efficient solution using its standard "Strong Post" system. This system is based on the semi rigid barriers used alongside roads and highways.

This is the simplest and most cost efficient barrier solution.

Whilst there are no specific Load Ratings, this configuration is the most cost efficient and been extensively deployed on carparking structures and industrial applications throughout Australia.

Type F and Type G barrier solutions

Where specified, the project may nominate a Type F or Type G Load Profile. In this case you need greater than just General Impact Protection. However – once again – the Armco® Strong Post system is at the heart of the solution.

AS/NZS 2890.1:2004 outlines requirements for parking facilities and references the current design code AS1170.1:2002 (Sec 3.8) with loading requirements for barriers. Selection of loading requirements is dependant on the use of the area and is selected by the design engineer.

Loading conditions are as follows:

Type F

For “Parking, garages, driveways and ramps restricted to cars, light vans, etc., not exceeding 2500 kg gross mass.

  • Design load 30kN impact load spread over 1.5m applied 0.5m above ground; and,
  • Armco® have several standard solutions available for all applications requiring a 30kN impact load.

(Link to drawings required here).

Type G

For “Vehicles exceeding 2500 kg and not exceeding 10 000kg. Driveways, ramps, repair workshops, footpaths with vehicle access, and car parking”

  • Design load will be 40kN impact load spread over 1.5m applied 1m above ground
  • Information is available upon request for applications requiring a 40kN impact load.
